Bright Summer Night is inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is The Candle Waster's first webseries that is not told through the vlog format. Bright Summer Night is 10 episodes long, and each episode explores the point of view of a different character.
The series is set at a New Zealand house party, where four lovers, three environmental activists, and a musical-political performance group attempt to escape their issues in the bewildering summer heat. Break-ups, new love, drugs, and musical performance art all make this one chaotic party, and Puck’s not sure if they're hurting people or helping them. The Candle Wasters first pitched the series to NZ On Air, with the help of Producer Bevin Linkhorn in mid-2015. After receiving the news that they had been granted full funding for their series, they pursued further funds from their fans via a successful Kickstarter (raising over $25,000). Robbie Nicol (White Man Behind A Desk) joined the writing team and the five then filmed the series over three weeks in April 2016. This webseries has 10 episodes which were released on The Candle Wasters YouTube channel. The total duration of the series is 1 hour and 16 minutes. |
